A moving, exciting, and heartfelt American saga inspired by the author's own family memoirs, these words belong to Sarah Prine, a woman of spirit and fire who forges a full and remarkable existence in a harsh, unfamiliar frontier. Scrupulously recording her steps down the path Providence has set her upon—from child to determined young adult to loving mother—she shares the turbulent events, both joyous and tragic, that molded her, and recalls the enduring love with cavalry officer Captain Jack Elliot that gave her strength and purpose.

This was a book club pick. I liked it more than I thought I would, especially after living in Arizona for almost 30 years and recently moving to Southern Arizona. A lot of the territory they covered was vast land and is currently very built out.
I found it interesting how they had to tell the "good" natives from the "bad". Some were there to "remove you" you while other tribes wanted to help protect you. She pretty much taught herself everything from survival skills to ranching and birthing and raising her children.

Someone said she didn't realize it was based on a true story. It's labeled as historical fiction and was written by Sarah Prine's great-granddaughter.
One of the ladies was questioning how much is historical and how much is fiction.
One lady had issues with the title not being grammatically correct. After she read it she understood since Sarah never went to school and was self-taught. She said she could see the progression in her grammar as the diary unfolded.

We had a great conversation about it.  In one of the printed books there was a list of questions in the back so we went down the list.  One of the ladies hadn't finished it yet and the rule is, if you haven't finished know there will be spoilers because most have finished it and we are together to discuss the whole book, not just up to where someone is currently at.
Someone said something about "when he died" and she said "he DIES?!?!" 😱🤣  We all laughed and someone said "well it was 1900, they are all dead".

I really enjoy the banter with this group.
