The Weekend Crashers by Jamie Brenner

G👀dreads

A knitting retreat gets knotty in this humorous and poignant novel about love, second chances, and the unyielding bonds between mothers and daughters.

Maggie Hodges and her daughter Piper are looking forward to a restful knitting retreat in the picturesque village of New Hope, Pennsylvania. But instead, they are surprised to find themselves sharing their charming riverside inn with a rowdy bushcraft bachelor party. Undaunted by the clash of interests and personalities, Maggie suggests a lighthearted competition—a battle of crafts—that sparks a rivalry between the two groups, and perhaps something more. But as the weekend unfolds, old mistakes and buried resentments begin to surface, threatening to destroy Maggie and Piper’s cherished connection.

In knitting, one can easily fix mistakes by picking apart each stitch and starting anew. But life’s tangles aren’t so easily mended. With tensions rising and the retreat coming to a close, Maggie must act quickly before she loses everything she holds dear. Can she repair what’s been broken before everything unravels?

Day 1 - I know, I know, my track record says to steer clear of cutsie book covers. This one got on my list because I follow the author on IG. She knits and she does reels with little tidbits regarding books she's currently reading, WHILE knitting. I mean, I'm a multitasker but I can't imagine THAT kind of multitasking.
She's been promoting the book that was just published November 4, 2025. Libby has had it on "notify me" status which means none of my libraries have it yet, so they will notify me when they do and then I can put it on hold. Imagine my surprise when I checked Hoopla today and it was available. 💃<happy dance!
A weekend knitting retreat. Sounds like fun. I think it sounds like a good pallet cleanser after the seriousness of my last book. We shall see...

Day 2 - DONE ✅

Overall Enjoyment 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Did it grab and keep my attention? 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

Would I recommend it to anyone? 🗣️ Yes ➕Although women would probably enjoy it more.

Would I want a sequel 🕮 Yes ➕I could see a sequel. No spoilers but with the changes on the horizon for the New Hope Inn, I could see enough material for a second book.

Would I want to read more books by this author 📚  Yes

Trigger Warnings 💣💥 No

Spice 🌶 No

Plot twist 🌪 No

Tidbits 💻 Adorable. This was a fun one. The Knitting Club vs Bushcraft Bachelors.
I gave it ⭐ because I start with five and deduct as I go. There was nothing to deduct for. Even if I go back to the other format I was using, still nothing to deduct for in any of the five categories.

  • The characters were likeable.
  • The plot was focused.
  • She wove (🧶 get it 😉) and great picture of the setting and the Inn.
  • The pacing was good.
  • Conflict Resolution was there.

Five out of Five.

I'd like to go to a retreat at the New Hope Inn.

After-After
I guess I'm a FAN GIRL now - A friend told me when she really enjoys a book she sends an email to the author letting him or her know. I've never done that but I've commented on their FB or IG a few times on a post. Anyhow, since I follow Jamie Brenner on IG I sent her a PM to tell her I enjoyed it and copied just the part from my blog about a sequel. She responded and said she was delighted I enjoyed it and "Yes I'm working on another book set at the Inn 💙"

Yay! I'm looking forward to hopping on the next one.
