Finlay Donovan Is Killing It ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

G👀dreads

Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.

Fast-paced, deliciously witty, and wholeheartedly authentic in depicting the frustrations and triumphs of motherhood in all its messiness, hilarity, and heartfelt moment.

Day 1 ~ Taking a break with a little humor, but served up with a side of mystery and thriller.

🎉 Overall Enjoyment? 🎉🎉🎉🎉

🎣 Did it grab and keep my attention? 🎣🎣🎣🎣

🗣️Would I recommend it to anyone? Maybe 🤷 If you like dark humor and don't try to take it seriously.

🕮 Would I want a sequel? Maybe 🤷 It's #1 of 6 (actually six and a half because there is a 3.5 🤷). Not sure if I'll tune into the next one but it won't be anytime soon. If ever.

📚 Would I want to read more books by this author?  Maybe 🤷

💣💥 📢 Triᵷᵷer Warnings? MƯrdɇr

🌶 Spice? No

🌪 Plot Twist? No

👟 Pace? Okay

💻 Tidbits ~ Struggling both financially and with writers block, Finlay is having a conversation with her very demanding agent about her overdue script. They are discussing the best ways to "dispose" of someone (for her book of course) and negotiating a price for the next one. Another customer listening in assumes she's a hit woman for hire and leaves her a note offering 50 grand to "do away with her husband". [You know, every day situation at your neighborhood Panera.] Curiosity gets the best of her so she checks out the situation. Yes, he's done some very bad things. Yes, Finlay is an accident waiting to happen. Everything goes haywire from there and she finds herself in the middle of the RuṦṨian M0b.
It says "deliciously witty". I didn't have any laugh-out-loud moments. I found it more corny than witty but
a quick and entertaining break from more serious mystery thrillers.

Favorite character: Mrs. Haggerty, the elderly nosey neighbor who sees all, knows all, and keeps track of all. Think Gladys Kravitz with a note pad.

I deducted one star because, although it was entertaining, at the 65% mark I was ready for it to be over.

🎧Angela Dawe - Good with the adult voice but when it came to Delia, Finlay's four year old daughter, it was like nails on a chalkboard. 😖:cringe: 😖
