My Favorite Half-Night Stand ⭐⭐⭐💫

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

G👀dreads

Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single.

So when a routine university function turns into a black tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they’ll join an online dating service to find plus-ones for the event. There’s only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spend the sexiest half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the friendship would be better off strictly platonic.

But online dating isn’t for the faint of heart. While the guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates, Millie’s first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics and creepers. Enter “Catherine”—Millie’s fictional profile persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more vulnerable than she’s ever been in person. Soon “Catherine” and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship...but Millie can’t resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will have to face her worst fear—intimacy—or risk losing her best friend, forever.

Genre: Fiction, Contemporary Romance, Rom Com, Friends to Lovers, Chick Lit

The How/Why: Why 1 - After the intensity of Educated, I decided I needed something light and fluffy even though I have two mystery thrillers I already borrowed Libby.
Why 2 - Author(s) Duo Christian Lauren wrote The Paradise Problem which I really liked, 4.5 star review >>here. This one might be too fluffy. I don't like to use the word predictable because most are at this stage of the game, but I will say I'd bet on a HEA. As long as the characters aren't annoying and unlikeable...

⭐⭐⭐💫 *3.5

🎉 Overall Enjoyment? 🎉🎉🎉

🎣 Did it grab and keep my attention? 🎣🎣🎣🎣

🗣️Would I recommend it to anyone? No ➖

🕮 Would I want a sequel? No ➖

📚 Would I want to read more books by this author? Yes ➕ Out of two books they have 4 star average so I'd give another a go.

💣💥 📢 Content Warnings? Google says: Catfishing (is that a TW?)

🌶 Spice? Yes, mildly spicy. More then a green pepper but not as hot as a jalapeño.

🌪 Plot Twist? No

👟 Pace? okay but not going to win any metals

💻 Tidbits ~ I'm Team Reid so that is bringing down my stars on this one. Did I just slip into the "Love the hero, hate the heroine's choices" category? Yes, Yes I DID. Not that I hated Millie, she had her pros and cons. Pros being smart and witty and generally I think she was a good human. Cons being childlike in her actions and not dealing with her past trauma. Catfishing him seemed very shallow for a highly educated women.
Reid - what's not to like? I actually liked all the guy friends and wouldn't mind being one the guys with this group!

I *did* enjoy the "one of the guys" group dynamics with the other professors in their group, party of five. The authors really brought the entertaining banter.

I was torn between hoping he'd forgive her because they had great chemistry together vs wanting to yell "you deserve better Reid!" After a break and Millie coming to terms with her issues, her string of daily messages trying to make her case for forgiveness were sweet, but were they enough? NO SPOILERS!  Actually not a spoiler because CL are known for a HEA.

Bottom line - it's a cute story but I think it would have been just as cute if she would have fessed up from the beginning and said "HEY, we're a match, how crazy is that?"
