...debut novel, is a fictional tale of the rise of three secretaries at the hottest agency in 1980's Hollywood, giving you a glimpse into the boys-will-be-boys club and the women who wanted a seat at a table where they were expected to serve. It's the story of friendship, betrayal, survival, standing up when they pass you by, and saying I won't go when they want you gone. And it's also a story about how some of those women became very much like the monsters who trained them.

...the author was a top agent at the William Morris Agency in the late 1980's and ICM in the 1990's. She represented A-List actors including Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Tim Robbins, and Madonna.

Genre: Historical Fiction.

The agency environment is historical, the three secretaries are fictional. You know, like the names have been changed to protect the innocent...and the guilty...

The area is my old stomping grounds. This timeframe was while I was working in law in L.A. where just about everyone I knew was living life in the fast lane. The firm I worked at had a lot of A-List clients in their entertainment department (actors and musicians) so there was a lot of cross over with their agents. Same with their sports department so I'm intrigued.
The narration is by the author.

Later - this is probably going to be a DNF for me. At 20% nobody is climbing in heels yet. A little too much character development while coming of age. The story is supposed to be about three women's friendship, betrayal, blah-blah-blah and they haven't even crossed paths yet. So far, very disappointing. I usually give a book to the 20% mark, 30% if it's been recommended by someone I know. I'll give it to 25% because I saw potential but it's not looking promising.

Later-Later ~ and I'm out. I don't really care about any of the three women, let alone watching them claw their way off the casting couch. I'm not rooting for any of them to succeed. After I hit >RETURN I looked up some of the lower reviews. It had 3.5 stars on Goodreads. Typically before I pick a book I throw out the top and the bottom reviews and stick with the middle (or average). I looked at the one star reviews and one review said the three women don't even interact until the 40% mark. SorryNotSorry ladies, no seat at MY table.
