Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.
But like science, life is unpredictable. Which is why a few years later Elizabeth Zott finds herself not only a single mother, but the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show Supper at Six. Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (“combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride”) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows, not everyone is happy. Because as it turns out, Elizabeth Zott isn’t just teaching women to cook. She’s daring them to change the status quo.

In the 50's and 60's, sexism was rampant and we can't erase history. She was very much a woman breaking into a man's world. There were some LOL parts and there were no jokes about any of the serious things listed. And of course plenty about her anti-religion, anti-politics agenda.
I thought it ended well. And 6:30! 🐶 He was my favorite and I don't typically like stories with anthropomorphism.
When she's pregnant, 6:30 refers to the baby as "the creature". When she brings the creature home, he says "I know how this works. They call me 6:30 because that's what time they found me and we became a family. Hello 9:22". Yes, I laughed out loud. 😍 No, the creature's name is not 9:22. 😁 No, he's not actually a talking dog, the writer is expressing his thoughts.
I deducted one star because in the beginning it didn't knock my socks off and I almost slept through the rowing lesson chapter. That was early one because I'm not one to "hang in there" waiting for it to get better. I actually liked it a lot, especially her determination to break through in her field, the developing relationship with her neighbor, and 6:30 was definitely a plus in the Entertainment Department.
