G👀dreads About Summary

An overworked book publicist with a perfectly planned future hits a snag when she falls in love with her temporary roommate…only to discover he lives seven years in the past, in this witty and wise new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.

Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.

So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesn’t want to get too close to anyone—she isn’t sure her heart can take it.

And then she finds a strange man standing in the kitchen of her late aunt’s apartment. A man with kind eyes and a Southern drawl and a taste for lemon pies. The kind of man that, before it all, she would’ve fallen head-over-heels for. And she might again.

Except, he exists in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact. And she, quite literally, lives seven years in his future.

Her aunt always said the apartment was a pinch in time, a place where moments blended together like watercolors. And Clementine knows that if she lets her heart fall, she’ll be doomed.

After all, love is never a matter of time—but a matter of timing.

The How/Why: I was at a conference in June and one of the ladies gave me the book. She said she knows I prefer audiobooks but she wanted me to have it. Thank you Tara! Coincidentally I had just finished The Dead Romantics a few weeks prior (a Five Star Fav). I *DO* prefer audiobooks and will be listening to this one while reading. Apparently immersive reading is a thing! Added bonus, narration by Brittany Pressley, one of my favs.

⭐⭐⭐⭐more like 3.5 but bumping to 4 because of some great quotes plus the author's note at the end really tied into Clementine's Ǥriɇf

🌪 Plot Twist? No, maybe a tiny twist with Iwan's mom

👟 Pace? Medium Slow

💻 Tidbits ~ I'm not the biggest fan of time travel but I adore Ashley Poston and I loved The Dead Romantics. This time travel is more of a Magical Twist 🪄 - A Pinch in Time vs typical Time Travel sci-fi. 🛸

Clementine's Aunt Analea was a free spirit and taught Clementine the joy of traveling, taking chances on a whim, and the strict rules of the apartment: Always take your shoes off, never fall in love in the apartment, and remember that inside these walls, nothing stays.
Clementine remembers Aunt Analea's words of wisdom:

“My aunt used to say, if you don’t fit in, fool everyone until you do. She also said to keep your passport renewed, to pair red wines with meats and whites with everything else, to find work that is fulfilling to your heart as well as your head, to never forget to fall in love whenever you can find it because love is nothing if not a matter of timing, and to chase the moon. Always, always chase the moon.”

Fall in love whenever you can find it... but not in the apartment... because the apartment has a magical glitch. Come to find out the apartment she inherited from her aunt has the ability to take you back or forward exactly seven years. ⌛From the About Summary we know that Iwan lives seven years in the past, Clementine in the now - seven years in his future.

Iwan calls Clementine *Lemon*, 🍋how cute is that? In the past he has dreams of becoming a famous chef to make his granddad proud. They meet in the apartment and have an instant attraction. In her timeframe he has made it big, but will he remember the girl from the apartment?

Two More Great Quotes:

"It's never a matter of time, but a matter of timing."

Life doesn’t always go as planned. The trick is to make the most of it when it doesn’t”.

Favorite Characters: I actually enjoyed the supporting cast more than the main characters.
Clementine's Circle: her amazing aunt, her parents, her bestie, her aunt's friend from the past.
Iwan’s Circle: his mom and friends Miguel and Isa (owners of food truck “Yo Mama’s Fajitas”).
They really stole the show and kept me invested in the story.

This book touches on SȖicidɇ, Ǥriɇf & LoŞŞ. Both when Aunt Analea diɇs and again in the author's note at the end. Ashley Poston reveals that her grandfather diɇd by SȖicidɇ while she was in the final draft of this book. She no longer had to imagine how to handle Ǥriɇf & LoŞŞ, she was living it. I highly recommend you don't skip the author's note. It really gave me a more honest view of Clementine's experience as written.

🎧 Narrator: Brittany Pressley - always great. I especially enjoyed the voice inflections of Clementine's mom and dad! I can still hear them saying "Oh Sweetheart" in my head! 💑
