The How/Why: This one was suggested on one of the FB book groups I follow. She said:
If you’re looking for quick, addictive reads, you NEED to check out books by Daniel Hurst I feel like he is not recommended enough.
His stories are short, fast-paced, and absolutely keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Every chapter pulls you in deeper, and just when you think you’ve figured it out… plot twist
Perfect for when you want something you can’t put down but don’t want a long, drawn-out read. I’ve been flying through his books lately!
One person comment that she loves his books and another said she's only read one and found it to be so-so.
I've been sucked into the "edge of your seat, can't put it down" before but since it's a shorter one I'll give it a shot. Ratings on booth Hoopla and Goodreads are 4.1 Stars.
UPDATE: Not on the edge of my seat and definitely could not wait to put it down. I'm actually surprised that it has over a 4 star rating on both platforms.

I don't rate books that I
don't finish, but I will say WHY when I've gone past the 20% mark.
💻 Tidbits ~ The characters were not only not likable, they were ridiculous (IMO).
Craig is a narcissistic psychopath who controls her every move. Unbeknownst to her he tracks her phone and her email and her online shopping. They live in a remote area in a beautiful house in the country. She's stuck there with no friends and no way to make friends which is how he likes demands it. She must return his text messages instantly or he's all "what is she doing that is so important she hasn't text'd me back?".
Megan is a stay at home wife totally bored and decides to look for a job. He is not pleased but he's certain nobody would hire here with her underwhelming resume. He spies on every job application she sends. When she gets an invitation for an interview he's shocked and convinces her she shouldn't go because the commute (via train) is difficult and why would she want to do that when she has the perfect stay at home life EVERY woman would want. She agrees and sends an email to cancel the interview. He's pleased.
BUT WAIT - the recruiter calls her. Craig is furious when he sees the incoming call and livid that she's on the phone for several minutes on what should have been less than a minute "no thanks, I changed my mind" conversation. He's fuming that his spyware doesn't give him the ability to listen to what the caller is saying.
Well, they chat it up and interviewer convinces her she'd be perfect for the job and they can go for a cocktail after. Overjoyed at the possibility of having female companionship she agrees to go but she won't tell Craig. Emm, ya, right? Then she starts fantasizing about becoming besties with her "new friend" and how they will go to lunch together and shopping, and engage in girl talk and she's longing to hear of someone else's dating adventures and she might even share things about Craig... and after ten minutes of that fantasy...I'm out. Obviously he finds out and locks her away. Obviously she discovers secrets about him to hold over his head.
I looked at some spoilers after I hit >>return early. I have zero regrets for this being a DNF for me. Now that I think about it, I've never regretted a DNF. Moving on...
