Overall Enjoyment 🎉
Did it grab and keep my attention? 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Would I recommend it to anyone? Yes, not restrictions ➕
Would I want a sequel 📚 Yes ➕ I wouldn't mind reading another book about Hedy Lamarr's life. This book covered her first two marriages. She was married SIX times! There are a few biographies about her life, which I probably won't read. But if there was a Six Husbands of Hedy Lamarr, I probably would.
Would I want to read more books by this author 📚 Yes ➕ Of course. She's my current favorite. This is the fourth one by her that I've read (or listened to) and they are all completely different with the exception of being centered about a strong woman in history. You know how some authors get stuck in a rut and all their books start sounding the same, only the names and venues are changed? That hasn't happened with MB. Not yet anyhow.
Trigger Warnings 💣💥Domestic Violence. Antisemitism (WWII so ya).
Spice 🌶 None
Plot twist 🌪 None
Tidbits: In the "about" is said she was a scientist. She and composer George Antheil invented frequency-hopping technology, which is the basis of Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth! The idea of frequency-hopping came to her when they were singing an impromptu duet "hopping" off each other's ques. She presented the idea to him and convinced him to help her figure it out. The intent was to communicate with torpedoes.
Bad reviews wanted more on her brainy side and less of her glam. I think Marie showed her brainy side in a several ways, without only focusing on her invention. And lets face it, she WAS glamorous.
📚 This one wasn't available on audio so I borrowed it from the Library. It took me about two weeks to read the first half even though I was 🎣'd the entire time. I just don't take time to sit and read. I forced myself to make the time and I read the second half in two days. Marie Benedict does not disappoint.
