G👀dreads About Summary

Someone's been watching. Someone's been waiting.

Alexis Turner walks into the police station to report an assault. By the end of the day, she is nowhere to be found.

Soon after she disappears, three identical packages arrive at three very different a respected psychologist's home, a socialite's mansion, and a struggling single father's run-down apartment. Inside, each gift is perfectly tailored to its recipient - and each will tear apart the life of its intended victim.

Detective Sergeant Judith Lee is smart and experienced, but this is no ordinary case. Someone with intimate knowledge of their targets is orchestrating these attacks. Someone who knows exactly how to hurt each victim where they're most vulnerable. And she's convinced that somehow, it connects back to Alexis Turner.

As she races to uncover the connection between three seemingly unrelated people, Judith discovers she's no longer just investigating the game - she's being forced to play.

💻 Tidbits ~ When 3+3+3=1. Three Packages. Three Victims. Three Stories spinning out of control. One Game.

Character Cheat Sheet:

Detective Sergeant Judith Lee: Protagonist leading the investigation, haunted by a past case.
Dr. Robert Walker & wife Vanessa: A psychologist accused of sexual assault by Alexis and his TV anchor wife. They receive the first package.
Jack & Cam: Single father/son, Jack receives second package.
Elsa: A wealthy socialite who receives package number three.

From the beginning this one had me wondering: was someone trying to avenge a crime, or just out for revenge?! When the legal system fails, vigilante justice turns to a means to an end. But does the punishment fit the crime?

Who is the mastermind behind these lethal packages? Someone was clearly out to completely destroy these people's lives. But are these three truly innocent? How do their individual stories mesh together to blur the morally grey lines?
Once lives are destroyed, is the villain satisfied, or does the evil one move on to the next victim?

I was way ahead of Judith as the pieces of the puzzle were locking together. I won’t say at what percentage I knew ‘whodunit’ because that would be a spoiler. I will say it was early on.

The Masters of Manipulation: This book also takes jabs at the dark side of modern technology. It explores the dangers of AI (a manipulated video) and social media, specifically influencers who are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote a brand.

I deducted one star because of the final showdown. It took me out of the investigative psychological suspense and put me in an over-the-top Hollywood action film which spoiled the mood for me.

🎧 Narrator: Alison McGirr - Phenomenal! She gets all the stars!
